Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup cranberries (4 oz)
- 1 cup red wine (I used Shiraz)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 mulling spice bag
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine water and cranberries. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for about 25 minutes until the cranberries have softened and burst.
- Strain the cranberry juice through a fine mesh sieve, pressing down on the berries to extract all the juice. Discard the berries.
- Return the juice to the saucepan and add the red wine, sugar, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the sugar has dissolved, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and add a mulling spice bag. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes, tasting after 3 minutes to adjust the spice level if needed.
- Make any desired adjustments to the sweetness or spiciness. Serve warm or cold. The mulled wine can be stored in the fridge and reheated when ready to serve.
