Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tbsp turbinado sugar
  • 6 to 9 dashes bitters
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Place the bourbon in a freezer-safe, resealable plastic container.
  2. In a small saucepot over medium heat, melt the butter until it browns, stirring constantly for about 5 minutes.
  3. Immediately whisk the browned butter into the bourbon, then cover and freeze until the butter solidifies on top, at least 1 hour or overnight.
  4. Remove the solidified butter from the bourbon and strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer to remove any remaining butter droplets.
  5. Dissolve the turbinado sugar in 1/2 cup hot water.
  6. Combine the brown-buttered bourbon with the sugar syrup and bitters.
  7. Serve the cocktail on the rocks in a tumbler, or stir with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
