Ingredients

  • 1/6 orange
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 5 oz red wine (inexpensive Cabernet or Malbec)
  • 2 tsp sugar (turbinado is nice)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 oz brandy

Instructions

  1. Pierce the orange with the cloves and cut it into half slices.
  2. Combine all the ingredients in a pot or slow cooker.
  3. Simmer the mixture on the stovetop for 20-25 minutes over medium-low heat, or in a slow cooker on low heat for 1 1/2 hours or on high for 45 minutes, until warm.
  4. Stir occasionally to dissolve the sugar and mix the ingredients.
  5. Once the mulled wine is aromatic, spicy, and hot (but not boiling), it's ready to serve and enjoy!
