Ingredients

  • 2 oz red wine (inexpensive Cabernet or Malbec)
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar (turbinado is nice)
  • 1/2 orange, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 oz brandy
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 whole cloves

Instructions

  1. Stud the cloves into the orange, then cut the orange into half slices.
  2. Add the orange slices, sugar, ground ginger, brandy, cinnamon stick, and cloves to a pot.
  3. Pour the red wine into the pot.
  4. Heat the wine over medium-low heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until warm and the sugar is dissolved. Do not let it boil.
  5. Once the mulled wine smells amazing and tastes spicy, it's ready to serve.
