Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sliced ripe strawberries
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 lemon slices
  • 2 orange slices
  • 2 tbsp strawberry syrup along with reserved strawberries from syrup
  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 2 fresh strawberries, sliced, for garnish
  • 5 oz cava or other dry sparkling wine
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine sliced strawberries, water, and sugar. Heat over high heat until boiling, stirring to dissolve sugar.
  2. Reduce to a simmer and continue to cook for about 10 minutes until the syrup is pink and the berries are soft.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool, then strain through a fine mesh strainer. Reserve the strawberries for the sangria. The strawberry syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  4. In a pitcher, add the lemon slices, orange slices, and reserved strawberries from the syrup.
  5. Add the strawberry syrup and Cointreau and muddle the ingredients together.
  6. Pour in the cava and stir gently to combine.
  7. Serve immediately by pouring into glasses garnished with a slice of lemon, a slice of orange, sliced strawberries, and ice.
