Ingredients

  • 2 jalapeños, halved
  • Zest of 1 grapefruit
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 ounces silver tequila
  • 1/2 ounce mezcal
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • 2 ounces grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 ounce jalapeño-infused simple syrup (see ingredient list above)
  • 1/2 ounce grapefruit liqueur or Triple Sec
  • Ice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Begin by creating the jalapeño-infused simple syrup: Combine jalapeño, grapefruit zest, sugar, and water in a small saucepan. Simmer until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature.
  3. Strain the syrup into a clean glass jar. It can be refrigerated in an airtight container and will keep for up to 2 weeks.
  4. To prepare the cocktail, mix all the ingredients in a shaker and shake with ice.
  5. Double strain the mixture into a glass filled with ice.
