Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 6 mint leaves
  • 1 1/2 oz premium Kentucky bourbon
  • 1/2 teaspoon mint syrup
  • 1 mint leaf
  • Crushed ice

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, mix the sugar and water. Bring to a boil and stir for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool for 15 minutes.
  2. Gently bruise the mint leaves to release the oils, then place them in a glass pitcher or jar.
  3. Pour the cooled syrup over the mint, close tightly, and refrigerate overnight.
  4. When ready to serve, strain the syrup to remove the leaves.
  5. In a cocktail shaker, combine the bourbon, mint syrup, and 1/2 cup of crushed ice.
  6. Shake the mixture well.
  7. Pour the cocktail into a small glass or julep cup.
  8. Garnish with a fresh mint leaf and serve with a short straw.
