A unique spin on the classic Manhattan, this cocktail features a rich and complex Calimocho syrup made with Mexican Coca-Cola, brandy, and red wine, combined with rye whiskey and Punt e Mes for a delightful flavor profile.
Ingredients
- 12 oz Mexican Coca-Cola
- 12 oz juicy red wine (Shiraz or Zinfandel)
- 1/2 cup brandy
- 2 oz Bulleit Rye
- 3/4 oz Punt e Mes
- 1 oz Calimocho Syrup
- 1 dash Bitter Truth Jerry Thomas' Own Decanter Bitters
- Garnish: orange twist
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the Mexican Coca-Cola, red wine, and brandy.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a heavy simmer.
- Cook until the volume is reduced by 1/3, approximately 10 minutes. Allow the syrup to cool.
- In an ice-filled mixing glass, combine the rye whiskey, Punt e Mes, Calimocho syrup, and bitters.
- Stir the mixture until well chilled, then strain it into a chilled coupe glass.
- Hold a lit match over the drink and squeeze the orange zest over it to release the oils. Drop the twist into the drink and serve.
