Ingredients

  • 1 large egg, separated
  • 1 tablespoon superfine sugar
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon, preferably Maker's Mark
  • 1/2 tablespoon dark rum, preferably Mount Gay
  • 1/2 tablespoon Cognac, preferably Remy Martin Grand Cru
  • Freshly grated nutmeg, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the egg yolk until thick and pale, then slowly beat in the sugar.
  2. Whisk in the milk and 2/3 cup of cream.
  3. Mix in the bourbon, rum, and Cognac, then cover and refrigerate for up to 1 day.
  4. Just before serving, beat the egg white until stiff peaks form, then fold them into the eggnog.
  5. Whisk the remaining 1/3 cup of cream until stiff peaks form, and fold it into the eggnog. Alternatively, fold half the whipped cream into the eggnog and top with the remaining half.
  6. Sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg before serving.
