Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 12 strips lemon zest (from 2 lemons)
- 6 fresh mint leaves, plus extra for garnish
- Crushed ice
- 2 ounces bourbon
- Water
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar, lemon zest, and water. Heat over high heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
- Remove from the heat and let the mixture cool for 20 minutes. Then, remove the lemon zest and allow the syrup to cool completely.
- In a julep cup, muddle the fresh mint leaves with 1 tablespoon of the lemon syrup until the mint begins to break down.
- Add the bourbon to the cup and fill it with crushed ice. Stir well until the mixture is nicely chilled.
- Top with more crushed ice and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
