Ingredients

  • 1 stick (4 oz.) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 oz dark or aged rum
  • 6 oz hot water
  • Cinnamon stick, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the butter, vanilla extract, brown sugar, spices, and salt. Beat until thoroughly combined.
  2. In a heat-proof glass or mug, combine the aged rum with 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of the spiced butter mixture. Store the remaining batter in an airtight container in the refrigerator for future use.
  3. Top the mixture with hot water and stir until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
  4. Garnish with a cinnamon stick if desired.
