Ingredients

  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • a pinch of ground nutmeg
  • a pinch of ground allspice
  • a pinch of ground cloves
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1.50 oz spiced or dark rum
  • 1.50 tbsp butter batter
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ground nutmeg (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the butter batter by creaming together the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and maple syrup. Roll into a log and refrigerate.
  2. In a heat-proof glass or mug, add the maple syrup, spiced rum, and a portion of the butter batter.
  3. Fill halfway with boiling water and stir vigorously with the cinnamon stick to melt the butter and dissolve the sugars.
  4. Top with more boiling water and stir.
  5. Sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg and enjoy the comforting warmth of Hot Cinnamon Buttered Rum.
