Holiday Bourbon Eggnog

Ingredients
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 ounce bourbon
- Additional freshly grated nutmeg
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until thick and lemon colored.
- In a saucepan, combine the milk and 1/2 cup of heavy cream, then add the yolk mixture, stirring constantly over medium heat until the mixture coats a spoon.
- Remove from heat, stir in the vanilla and a pinch of nutmeg, then cool the custard in cold water, stirring occasionally.
- Cover and refrigerate the custard for at least 2 hours but no longer than 24 hours.
- Just before serving, stir the bourbon into the chilled custard.
- In a chilled small bowl, beat the remaining 1/2 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then gently fold the whipped cream into the custard.
- Sprinkle with additional nutmeg and serve, or refrigerate until serving time.
