Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp organic blonde cane sugar
  • 1 tbsp boiling water
  • 3 tbsp cubed green melon
  • 2 tbsp thinly sliced cucumber
  • 2 tbsp halved green table grapes
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 2 sprigs mint, plus some pretty leaves for garnish
  • 2 sprigs basil, plus some pretty leaves for garnish
  • 6 oz Vinho Verde (or dry white or sparkling wine such as Prosecco), chilled
  • 2 tbsp white rum
  • ice
  • sparkling water

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, stir together the sugar and boiling water until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. In a large pitcher or mason jar, combine the cucumber, melon, grapes, lime slices, lime juice, mint, and basil.
  3. Pour in the Vinho Verde, rum, and simple syrup. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes or up to several hours.
  5. To serve, fill a tall glass with ice and pour in the sangria along with some of the fruity bits.
  6. Top off the glass with a spritz of sparkling water and garnish with pretty mint and basil leaves.
