Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves, torn
  • 1 1/2 oz clear tequila
  • 2-3 teaspoons basil simple syrup
  • 3 oz white grapefruit juice
  • 2-3 dashes orange bitters

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, combine sugar, water, and torn basil leaves. Heat over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved, bringing it to a low boil.
  2. Remove the pot from the heat and let the syrup cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  3. Strain the syrup through a sieve to remove the basil leaves, then store it in a small bottle in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  4. In a glass, add ice, tequila, basil simple syrup, white grapefruit juice, and orange bitters.
  5. Stir the ingredients in the glass and garnish with fresh basil or a grapefruit slice.
