Ingredients

  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 oz brandy (or cognac)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: whipped cream
  • Optional: cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, beat 5 large egg yolks, 1/8 teaspoon salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar until the mixture thickens.
  2. Gradually add 2 oz of brandy or cognac while continuing to beat until well blended.
  3. Pour the mixture into a saucepan and heat over low heat, whisking continuously until it thickens without boiling.
  4. Once thickened, remove from heat and whisk in 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  5. Allow the advocaat to cool, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving in small glasses or espresso cups.
  6. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder before serving, if desired.
