Ingredients
- 5 large egg yolks
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 oz brandy (or cognac)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: whipped cream
- Optional: cocoa powder
Instructions
- In a bowl, beat 5 large egg yolks, 1/8 teaspoon salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar until the mixture thickens.
- Gradually add 2 oz of brandy or cognac while continuing to beat until well blended.
- Pour the mixture into a saucepan and heat over low heat, whisking continuously until it thickens without boiling.
- Once thickened, remove from heat and whisk in 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Allow the advocaat to cool, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving in small glasses or espresso cups.
- Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder before serving, if desired.
