Ingredients

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of allspice and cloves
  • 2 tbsp bourbon
  • Whipped cream (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and 2 tablespoons of sugar until light.
  2. In a large saucepan, heat the milk, cream, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and the spices over medium heat until steaming, about 5 minutes. Then, remove the saucepan from the heat.
  3. While whisking the egg yolk, slowly add some of the steaming milk to the egg mixture. Begin by adding the milk in drops, then gradually pour it in a thin stream while whisking constantly.
  4. Once about 1 cup of milk is added to the eggs, pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan while whisking continuously.
  5. Stir in the bourbon and cook on low heat until the eggnog is hot and thick, whisking constantly for about 5 minutes.
  6. Pour a small amount of the eggnog into a glass, top with whipped cream, and sprinkle with cinnamon.
