Ingredients
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 egg (separated)
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp cinnamon
- a pinch of ginger
- 2 tbsp bourbon
Instructions
- Set aside 1 tbsp of the granulated sugar.
- Beat the egg yolk until it lightens in color, gradually adding the remaining sugar until dissolved.
- In a saucepan, bring the milk, heavy cream, nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger to a boil over medium heat. Remove from heat.
- Add a ladle of the milk mixture at a time to the egg mixture, stirring to temper it, then return everything to the saucepan and cook until it reaches 160°F.
- Remove from heat, stir in the bourbon, and chill in the fridge for at least an hour.
- Beat the egg whites with the tbsp of sugar until stiff peaks form, then whisk into the chilled eggnog. Serve cold.
