Ingredients

  • 3.50 oz strong black coffee or espresso, or use instant espresso powder
  • 1.50 oz golden caster sugar
  • 1.50 oz balsamic vinegar
  • ice
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1.75 oz strong black coffee or espresso, or use instant espresso powder
  • 2 coffee beans
  • 1 cardamom pod

Instructions

  1. Begin by making the coffee shrub. Combine the coffee or espresso with the sugar in a jug, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool completely before adding the balsamic vinegar. Transfer the shrub to the fridge and chill until needed, preferably making it a day ahead.
  2. Next, prepare the cocktail by placing a martini or coupe glass in the fridge to chill.
  3. Half-fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add the 1.75 oz of the coffee shrub, vodka, and coffee or espresso. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker feels cold.
  4. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass.
  5. Garnish each glass with two coffee beans and a cardamom pod.
