Ingredients

  • 3.50 oz strong black coffee or espresso, or use instant espresso powder
  • 2 tbsp golden caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • Ice
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1.70 oz strong black coffee or espresso, or use instant espresso powder
  • 4 coffee beans
  • 2 cardamom pods

Instructions

  1. Start by making the coffee shrub. Combine the coffee or espresso with the sugar in a jug and stir until dissolved. Let the mixture cool completely before adding the balsamic vinegar. Chill the mixture in the fridge, which can be done a day ahead.
  2. Place two martini or small coupe glasses in the fridge to chill.
  3. Half-fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add the coffee shrub, vodka, and coffee or espresso.
  4. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker feels cold.
  5. Strain the mixture into the chilled glasses.
  6. Finish by topping each glass with two coffee beans and a cardamom pod.
