Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 1/8 orange, sliced into thin rounds
  • 2 oz London dry gin
  • 1 oz off-dry Sherry (such as Lustau East India Solera)
  • 1 mint sprig
  • Crushed ice

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring the sugar and 3/4 cup water to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and refrigerate remaining syrup for later use.
  2. Heat the syrup almost to a boil, then reduce heat to medium. Add cranberries and simmer until they begin to burst, about 2-3 minutes. Let the mixture cool in the syrup.
  3. In a large pitcher, combine 2 tbsp drained cranberries, 6 tbsp cranberry syrup, lemon wedges, and orange slices. Use a muddler or wooden spoon to vigorously mash the fruit.
  4. Stir in gin and Sherry, then let the mixture steep for 5 minutes.
  5. Strain the mixture into a medium pitcher. Fill a glass with crushed ice and pour half of the mixture into a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds, then strain into the glass and top with more crushed ice.
  6. Garnish with a mint sprig and a few cranberries. Repeat to make additional cocktails.
