Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 10-12 cloves
  • 1 orange
  • 4 cups unsweetened cloudy apple juice
  • 2 cups white rum
  • 1 cup apricot brandy or Cointreau
  • 1 whole nutmeg for grating (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and add the cloves.
  2. Use a speed-peeler to peel the orange and add the peel to the saucepan.
  3. Once the butter begins to foam, pour in the apple juice and squeeze in the orange juice.
  4. Add the rum and apricot brandy (or Cointreau) and bring to a simmer.
  5. Turn off the heat and pour the mixture into mugs or toddy glasses, removing the orange peel if desired.
  6. Finish with a grating of nutmeg, if using.
