Chilled Mulled Wine Delight
A refreshing and balanced cocktail, combining the warmth of Cognac, the brightness of lime, and a spiced simple syrup.
Ingredients
- 1 (5- to 6-inch) piece ginger
- 2 cinnamon sticks, lightly crushed
- 4 whole cloves
- 4 whole black peppercorns
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 5 whole green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
- Ice
- 1 1/2 ounces dry red wine, such as Pinot Noir, Gamay, or Grenache
- 1 ounce Cognac
- 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
Instructions
- Place a coupe glass in the freezer for at least 15 minutes to chill.
- Prepare the ginger-infused simple syrup: Grate the ginger and add it to a saucepan with water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and peppercorns. Simmer until fragrant, then add sugar and cardamom. Stir until sugar dissolves, then cool and strain.
- In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the wine, Cognac, vermouth, 1/2 ounce of the ginger-infused simple syrup, and lime juice.
- Shake well and strain into the chilled coupe glass.
