Ingredients
- 1/2 egg yolk, slightly beaten
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder or instant coffee crystals
- 1 tablespoon light rum or milk
- 1/8 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/8 cup whipping cream
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Orange peel curls (optional)
Instructions
- In a heavy saucepan, combine the beaten egg yolk, milk, sugar, and espresso powder or coffee crystals.
- Cook and stir over medium heat until the mixture coats a spoon.
- Remove from heat and cool quickly by placing the saucepan in a sink or bowl of ice water and stirring for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Stir in the rum or milk and the vanilla. Cover the surface with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or up to 24 hours.
- At serving time, in a chilled mixing bowl, combine whipping cream and sugar; beat until soft peaks form.
- Transfer the chilled egg mixture to a punch bowl and fold in the whipped cream mixture.
- If desired, garnish each serving with orange peel curls. Serve immediately.
