Ingredients

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 oz 100 proof bourbon
  • 1/2 oz amaretto
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup half and half
  • Optional: additional bourbon as needed to taste
  • Garnish: freshly grated nutmeg and cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the egg yolk until it lightens in color and thickens slightly.
  2. Add sugar and mix until the batter thickens, resembling a cake batter.
  3. Stir in the vanilla and nutmeg.
  4. Gradually add the bourbon and amaretto, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a glass jar or container and refrigerate for at least 24 hours, or ideally 3 days to a week for enhanced flavor.
  6. After refrigeration, fold in the whipped cream and half and half until well combined.
  7. Store the eggnog in the fridge until ready to serve. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg before serving.
