Ingredients
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 oz 100 proof bourbon
- 1/2 oz amaretto
- 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup half and half
- Optional: additional bourbon as needed to taste
- Garnish: freshly grated nutmeg and cinnamon stick
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, beat the egg yolk until it lightens in color and thickens slightly.
- Add sugar and mix until the batter thickens, resembling a cake batter.
- Stir in the vanilla and nutmeg.
- Gradually add the bourbon and amaretto, mixing well after each addition.
- Transfer the mixture to a glass jar or container and refrigerate for at least 24 hours, or ideally 3 days to a week for enhanced flavor.
- After refrigeration, fold in the whipped cream and half and half until well combined.
- Store the eggnog in the fridge until ready to serve. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg before serving.
