Ingredients

  • 1 medium orange
  • 5 oz. red wine
  • 2 tbsp spiced rum
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 clove
  • 1 star anise pod
  • 2 tsp granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Slice the orange into rounds, reserving a few slices for garnish.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the red wine, spiced rum, remaining orange slices, cinnamon stick, clove, star anise, and granulated sugar.
  3. Gently heat the mixture until it is just below simmering, and let it infuse for about 20 minutes, being careful not to bring it to a boil.
  4. Serve the glühwein in heatproof cups or mugs, garnished with a fresh slice of orange.
