Ingredients

  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/4 large granny smith apple, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 small orange, sliced into 1/4-inch thick slices
  • 1 whole clove
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • a pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 tsp dark brown sugar or turbinado sugar
  • 1 oz bourbon

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the apple cider, apple slices, orange slices, clove, cinnamon stick, and nutmeg. Simmer over medium heat for about 15 minutes.
  2. Strain the cider into a heat-safe pitcher.
  3. Spread the sugar on a plate. Run an orange slice around the rim of a serving glass and dip the glass in the sugar to create a sugar rim.
  4. Pour the bourbon into the glass.
  5. Pour the hot cider into the glass.
  6. Drop a clove and half a cinnamon stick into the glass.
  7. Add an apple slice and orange slice to the glass, if desired.
  8. Serve while hot.
